Daylight Hours

What I am used to

Coming from South Africa, Johannesburg, I am used to daylight hours in Summer being around 13:30 and Winter around 10:30.

Why is the sun shining at 9 at night?

Welcome to Chch, where it is a stupid 15:30 in Summer, and around 8 in the winter.

This really confuses my internal clock, because I was raised on it being dark before bedtime.

Now I get a shock because I am writing blog posts with the sun having just set and I realize that I should have been getting ready for bed if I want to wake up in any normal time.

Which raises the other Summer problem

Birdsong at 4 AM

I love birdsong, but I am not always appreciative of being woken up by the amourous songs of any animal, especially next to my bedroom window.

At 4AM I am not impressed!

Flipside!

I am not unfamiliar with going to work before the sun has risen, or after it has set, but here it is just part of Winter.

Suddenly my brain it telling me it is bedtime, but it is just past 5 PM.

Sunlight is weird. :)
