Force Carbonation
Page content
Once kegged your beer needs to be carbonated. I am struggling to get the levels right, but for now these are the steps that I take.
General Carbonation
- Place the keg in a fridge and carbonate at 3 bar (45 psi) at 3°C for 24 hours
- Warning - FOAM Get a large jug and pour some beer out. This will get rid of most of the sediment
- Reduce the pressure on the keg (pull pressure release valve) to 10 psi - serving pressure
- Test the pour - Note that the first pour will be foamy
- If the carbonation is not correct, increase the pressure to 20 psi and leave for 12 to 24 hours
- Reduce the pressure on the keg (pull pressure release valve) to 10 psi - serving pressure
- Test the pour - Note that the first pour will be foamy
- Repeat until the beer is carbonated to the correct level
