Force Carbonation

Page content

Once kegged your beer needs to be carbonated. I am struggling to get the levels right, but for now these are the steps that I take.

General Carbonation

  1. Place the keg in a fridge and carbonate at 3 bar (45 psi) at 3°C for 24 hours
  2. Warning - FOAM Get a large jug and pour some beer out. This will get rid of most of the sediment
  3. Reduce the pressure on the keg (pull pressure release valve) to 10 psi - serving pressure
  4. Test the pour - Note that the first pour will be foamy
  5. If the carbonation is not correct, increase the pressure to 20 psi and leave for 12 to 24 hours
  6. Reduce the pressure on the keg (pull pressure release valve) to 10 psi - serving pressure
  7. Test the pour - Note that the first pour will be foamy
  8. Repeat until the beer is carbonated to the correct level
